Employment Law for Managers

Description

This workshop, developed and led by Keri Kozlowski, J.D., is designed to help managers and supervisors succeed in today’s legal environment. We will discuss the legal topics that arise most often in the workplace, giving attendees an opportunity to go back to work and use what they learned the next day. Interactive case studies will focus on two hot employment law topics, employee use of social media (at work and at home) and employment discrimination/harassment in the #MeToo era.

Workshop attendees are encouraged to participate and come with questions. While we will cover many topics, the greatest learning comes from the discussion of real-world problems.

The Spring 2021 session of this workshop will be delivered online in two half-day blocks. Dr. Kozlowski will be using Zoom for an interactive video and audio experience.

Instructor Biography

Employment Law for Managers Instructor Keri White Kozlowski, J.D., M.P.H.

Keri White Kozlowski, J.D., M.P.H. is a faculty member with the University of Central Florida Kenneth G. Dixon School of Accounting. Here she teaches Business Law and Ethics at the graduate level. Ms. Kozlowski began her career in healthcare. After returning to school to get her law degree, she clerked for the Honorable Judge Barbara Haynes in the 3rd Circuit of the Tennessee State Trial Courts.

Thereafter, she quickly began representing the Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County’s hospital, public health, and medical examiner entities. She was also assistant counsel to the public-school system. On any given day, she solved employment law matters via phone calls, emails, meetings, investigations, and/or hearings for up to 14,000 employees. She still enjoys the challenge of hearing a problem she hasn’t solved before.

One of Ms. Kozlowski’s clients hired her as their Chief Performance Officer. Ms. Kozlowski calls this her Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde role because on the one hand, she accomplished a massive change to human resources functions and policies while engaging staff and increasing transparency. On the other hand, she was the sole disciplinarian for an organization of over 500 people.

Ms. Kozlowski now enjoys teaching and consulting. Her focus is on helping others identify, analyze, manage and resolve people-driven organizational dilemmas before they turn into legal problems. Her consulting specializes in Executive Coaching, Leadership Development and Mediation. Ms. Kozlowski also developed and leads UCF’s Continuing Education workshop on Employee Relations & Conflict Resolution.

Ms. Kozlowski graduated Cum Laude from Georgia State University School of Law. She holds a Master of Public Health, specializing in Heath Policy and Management from Emory University and has a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration as an alumna of UCF. She is currently working on a Master of Laws in Tax Law/Taxation at the University of Denver. She is a certified Executive Coach and is a Florida Supreme Court Certified Circuit, County and Family Mediator.

Fantastic job, really like that she was very specific. So many other classes are generalized. You can tell she has a lot of knowledge and doesn’t shy from questions.
